Mighty Earth’s Rapid Response system monitors more than 3500 oil palm concessions in Indonesia and Malaysia, covering about 21 million hectares, an area more than twice the size of Portugal. Our Rapid Response monitoring started holding the palm oil industry in 2016, and has since contributed to a huge decrease in deforestation for palm oil and an increase in compliance with No Deforestation, No Peatland development, and No Exploitation (NDPE) policies. Because of this decrease in deforestation, our system identifies fewer cases, but we are still closely monitoring instances of deforestation and compliance with NDPE commitments.
