The goal of protecting Nature underpins all our work. It inspires and drives us to secure a future that allows life to flourish.
Despite its size, The Netherlands is an agricultural powerhouse. The Netherlands is the second largest exporter of agricultural goods in the world, behind the United States. The Netherlands is the largest importer of products at risk of deforestation within the EU. It is both the largest importer and exporter in the EU of soybeans, palm oil and cocoa and the largest importer of meat from Brazil.
Mighty Earth’s work in The Netherlands focuses on using The Netherlands’ important role in the international food system to transform the meat and soy industry by persuading supermarkets, financial institutions and governments to end deforestation and abuse of Indigenous communities.
Mighty Earth campaigns across the supermarkets such as Jumbo, Lidl and Ahold Delhaize, one of the largest retailers in the world, to ensure these companies use their massive purchasing power to demand the soy used to produce their animal products is deforestation-free, and set ambitious plant-based targets to ensure we reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from the industrial meat sector.

Mighty Earth’s brings to light the obscured data connecting global meatpackers, soy traders and retailers to deforestation and land clearance in the Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado.
Learn MoreThe Cerrado is in peril, disappearing at an alarming rate, becoming a deforestation hotspot. Half of its land surface has been lost, taken by the meat industry to rear cattle and grow soy for animal feed.
