A new book titled “False Climate Change Solutions Supported by Our Electricity Bills: A Look at Imported Woody Biomass Power Generation”—edited and authored by GEF staff members Sayoko Iinuma and Katsuta Suzushima with contributions from Mighty Earth’s Roger Smith—is set to be published at the end of this month.

Drawing from on-the-ground reporting from Canada, the United States, Indonesia, and other regions where woody pellets imported into Japan are produced, this volume synthesizes the challenges inherent in the Japanese regulatory framework that underpins woody biomass power generation. Furthermore, it organizes and presents developments in overseas policy, as well as the scientific principles regarding “how greenhouse gas emissions should be calculated.” In this single volume, readers can access a comprehensive overview of the past activities (including research and policy recommendations) conducted by GEF and its partner organizations.
