João Gonçalves is a Senior Director for Brazil at Mighty Earth, where he is responsible to lead our local protein campaign targeting corporates and governments to end deforestation and to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the implementation of strong environmental and human rights policies.
João has been working with environmental and sustainable campaigns and communications since 2005. Climate change, biodiversity, forests, freshwater, conservation, animal welfare, tourism and other, are topics that he has been working with Brazilian and international organizations, such as UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), Conservation International, WWF-Brazil and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Gmbh. Prior to join Mighty Earth, his last position was as Acting Executive Director at World Animal Protection in Brazil.
João has a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication (Journalism) from the Pontífícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), with previous studies in Social Sciences from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). He also has a Master degree in Marketing Communication from Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM), in addition to courses on corporate social responsibility and environmental communications from institutions such as Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and Universidade de Brasília (UnB).
Based in São Paulo (Brazil), but with part of his heart at Chapada dos Veadeiros, a pristine area in the Brazilian Cerrado, João is an amateur sea crossing swimmer. Participant in swimming competitions such as Fuga das Ilhas (Islands Escape) on the Brazilian coast.
