Who We Are:
Mighty Earth is a global campaign organization that works to protect tropical forests and the climate with staff based around the world. We have played a leading role in persuading the world’s largest food and agriculture companies to adopt policies to eliminate deforestation and human rights abuse from their supply chains and driven adoption of multi-billion-dollar shifts to clean energy.
Who We Are Looking For:
Mighty Earth is accepting applications for a Geospatial Data Intern for our Rapid Response Deforestation Monitoring program. This is a summer internship opportunity for a strategic thinker with entry-level geospatial data and analysis abilities who is passionate about protecting the environment and building a more just world. This internship will specifically focus on using geospatial research to stop deforestation in its tracks.
As part of our internship program, you will work with our talented staff and learn some of the fundamentals of environmental advocacy and campaign work–ranging from research, data analysis and persuasive writing to planning deforestation investigations and holding corporations accountable for environmental degradation.
If you are a self-starter who can work both independently and shoulder-to-shoulder with our team; can conduct research, think creatively, and write persuasively; and care deeply about addressing some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, this is the internship for you. You also have experience with point-and-click GIS software and/or programming-based data analysis and are excited to apply your skills to real-world problems.
Over the course of your internship, you will work with Mighty Earth’s Rapid Response deforestation monitoring team to fight deforestation and climate change by working to protect native ecosystems and local communities from encroachment by the palm oil, soy, cattle, cocoa, rubber, and/or transition mineral industries.
